When Is The Right Time To Replace Your Heater?

Modern day homes cannot do without a heating system. It has become the most essential equipment in the household. A controlled heating system provides the warmth during cold seasons for the family members and cool air during hot seasons. Despite the best of maintenance there may be times when a service is needed. In most cases, the heater is installed and forgotten. Only when it is malfunctioning homeowners turn their attention towards them. Boiler manufacturers/suppliers suggest regular maintenance can save you huge repair bills in the future. Avoiding repairs can turn dangerous for the safety of your family.

Boiler Repair tips
Filters in the HVAC clog and it is important to clean them to regulate free flow of air. Dust particles settle over a period of time and this can prevent the system from delivering its maximum potential. Frequent checking for block in the filter can improve the performance of the HVAC. Overrunning the system with a blocked filter can strain the functioning of the system.

Noise from the heater
There may be times when your heating system is making too much noise. This can cause disturbance to the family members and can interrupt your daily activities. Damaged parts and clogged heaters may be the reason for the noise. Whenever you hear a noise it could mean that your heating system is malfunctioning and needs to be addressed immediately. If you hear unpleasant noise from the system, do not use it unless you check it out with a specialist. If you feel you are spending too much on the repair, it is advised to invest in a new one.

Time for a change
When your heating system is over 15 years then it is time for a change. If you maintain your heater in best condition it can run for 20 years too. The electric furnace in the heating system needs replacement when compared to oil or gas heaters. Irrespective of the model of the heater, consider replacing your heater atleast once in 15 years. With time all machine wear off and heaters are no exception. The degree of wear and tear depends on the environmental conditions and maintenance. Frequently maintained heating systems run for longer duration and lower repair cost.

High operational cost
Is your energy bill going up, then it is time to check your heater. When your energy meters run faster when the heater is operational then consider a service. This could mean a furnace repair and you should consider a replacement, especially with winter round the corner. There could also be problems with the ducts, leaking out warm air causing rise in the energy bills. The filters have to be checked regularly, any clogs mean more consumption of energy.

Increased carbon footprints
Burning of fossil fuel results in emission of carbon monoxide. This odourless, colourless gas is difficult to detect without a special equipment. Carbon monoxide exit can lead to shortness of breath, weakness, vomiting, headache and other symptoms. The flame in the unit has to be blue, if you find it yellow or flickering it is time to check the burner. Running a check on the chimney can tell you the amount of soot build-up.
